With growth as a Christian we learn (sometimes the hard way) that everyone and everything has a season. Well it's become a new season for First Baptist Website, so please continue to come back and visit often but for now just browse through and enjoy!
First Baptist Church has been part of the Eastern Shore of Virginia Community for over 100 years.
As you browse through our website you'll see just a small glimpse into our Church home. Please feel free to stop by any time our doors are open.
Our purpose as a church is to simply "Love God and Love People".
We get that purpose from the Bible in Matthew 22 where it says, "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" Jesus replied: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with your entire mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
We realize that Christ has made it so simple for us, but although it sounds so easy we realize there needs to be a community around to support those who are striving to follow Christ's words in this world.
First Baptist Church is a Great Place to Be!
We are located in Mappsville

In August 1984, God sent us Rev. James I. Boyd. Under the leadership of Rev. Boyd, the church has grown tremendously in spirit, members and fellowship. He has taken the church as far south as North Carolina and as far north as New Jersey. Many souls have come to Christ by Baptism, Letter, and Christian Experience, under Rev. Boyd's leadership.
Under our present leadership, the church has 5 singing groups, the Male Choir, the Youth Choir, the Mass Choir, the Senior Choir, and the New Hope Inspirational Choir. Also, members of First Baptist have formed two new groups, The New Believers and Willie C. Smith, and The Miracle Workers.
The Church is affiliated with the Maryland/Virginia Baptist Associations, the General Baptist Convention, and the Minister's Conference. The Church helps support the Baptist Children's Home, Virginia Union University Lynchburg Seminary and College.
This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
